So, This morning I had to take Madeline to a Dr. appointment. I drove down the street to drop Bradley off at my friends house. As I was getting him out He kicked something. When I got out I looked in the car to see what he had kicked and there was a bottle of medicine on the floor so that explained it and I went to the door to drop him off. (Really he had kicked the car into drive.)
I turned back to the car but the car wasn't there. I looked up and it was across the street on the neighbors lawn. I ran to the car and found Madeline in the drivers seat with her foot on the brake.
I flung open the door and asked her what happened. She said that while I was knocking on the door the car started to roll. She thought for a second of what to do and then she unhooked her seat belt, jumped in the front and pushed on the brake. I grabbed her out of the car and hugged the hell out of her.
I asked her how she knew which pedal was the brake, she said that she watches when I let her ride in the front. (I no longer feel guilty about letting her ride in the front seat when I take her to school in the mornings.)
The car just fit through a space between a tree and the mail box. Madeline said that the mirror hit the mailbox but there wasn't any damage to anything. (The mail box is made out of 1/4" steel, or something really hard like that.)
On the way to the doctor Madeline kept telling me "You can stop saying oh my gosh mom."
I still can't believe how brave she was. It makes my eyes leek a little when I think of all of the bad things that could have happened in that situation and my eyes leek because I am so grateful for the amazing little girl that I have.
